Description

This is a hilarious guide to the national anti-holiday on how to prepare and enjoy your very own Festivus. What is Festivus you may ask? It’s the event made famous by Frank Costanza (Jerry Stiller) on one of the most memorable “Seinfeld” episodes ever. This “holiday,” in which a bare aluminum pole replaces those stodgy old Christmas trees and Menorahs, and where participants compete in “feats of strength” and undertake the “airing of the grievances,” has transcended TV to become a national phenomenon. Thousands of people now celebrate Festivus, partly to thumb their noses at the commercialism of the holiday season and partly because it’s just so darn fun (and hey, aluminum poles are a lot cheaper than Christmas lights and a plastic Frosty the Snowman).

Reviews

AudioFile Magazine...
Bah! Humbug! If you think Festivus, the curmudgeon's December celebration, was made up on "Seinfeld," Allen Salkin, humorist and journalist, wants to disabuse you. Or he pretends to, for all he really wants is for you to enjoy this brief, lighthearted treatise on the history, rituals, and impact of Festivus, which he wrote and--with the help of Jerry Stiller, Alan Sklar, and others--narrates. Alas, he doesn't possess a skill with aural humor that measures up to his knack for the written variety. The production seems forced and staid. Nonetheless, during the holiday season it will provide diversion as you drive to the holiday party you've been dreading. Y.R. (c) AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine
